What will you do in this role?
The Vice President of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) will serve as a strategic finance partner and critical leader within the organization, responsible for driving financial clarity, supporting growth initiatives, and leading financial modeling for joint ventures and strategic partnerships. This role will oversee the company’s FP&A function, enhance analytical capabilities, implement scalable financial processes, and provide key insights to executive leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning and Budgeting

Lead all financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting activities across Oakwood, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and operational execution.

Lead the corporate financial planning process, integrating operational strategy, market trends, and business performance into multi-year forecasts and board-ready strategic plans.

Partner with regional finance teams and Clayton leaders to ensure alignment of reporting and financial plans with corporate goals and market conditions.
Performance Analysis and Reporting

Develop and maintain the Oakwood reporting system, dashboards and KPI reports covering revenue, cost of sales, gross margins, backlog, cycle time, and SG&A performance.

Provide monthly and quarterly financial performance reviews, variance analyses, and recommendations to senior leadership.

Evaluate Oakwood’s financial health and identify early warning signs of underperformance.
Strategic Decision Support

Provide scenario modeling and capital strategy recommendations to support land investments, community expansion, acquisitions, and new business lines.

Serve as a thought partner to the President and executive team, actively contributing to strategic planning, growth initiatives, and enterprise risk management.

Architect and oversee complex joint venture and development models, serving as the internal expert in deal underwriting, waterfall structures, IRR analysis, and capital stack optimization.

Partner closely with Land Acquisition, Development, and Legal teams to evaluate and negotiate JV terms that align with enterprise goals.

Partner with Land and Operations teams to evaluate project-level performance, cash flow forecasting, and capital allocation.

Act as a key liaison to joint venture partners, managing investor reporting packages, materials, and value-creation plans.
Capital Allocation and Investment Review

Evaluate financial returns of new land deals, developments, and vertical construction investments, including IRR and NPV modeling.

Present financial due diligence on major investments to executive leadership and corporate finance.
Cross Functional Collaboration

Work closely with land acquisition, construction, sales, and marketing teams to ensure financial alignment across the business.

Support alignment between corporate finance and division-level forecasting and planning.

Coordinate with IT and data teams to enhance reporting tools and systems.
Process Improvement and Systems

Build and implement modernized FP&A systems, tools, and reporting structures to support a high-growth environment.

Drive continuous improvement in forecasting, reporting, and budgeting processes.

Lead implementation of planning tools and enhance the use of ERP systems like Kova, Oracle, or similar platforms used in homebuilding.

Oversee implementation and optimization of new FP&A systems, reporting tools, and process improvements to support a growing and evolving business.
Leadership and Talent Development

Drive cross-functional financial literacy and forecasting discipline across Oakwood, enhancing data-informed decision making.

Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing FP&A function with a focus on developing future financial leaders.

Lead, coach, and mentor a high-performing FP&A team; foster a culture of excellence, learning, and innovation.
Compliance and Risk Management

Ensure compliance with corporate financial policies and procedures.

Monitor and communicate financial risks and opportunities within Oakwood team and the region.
You Have:
-
Bachelor's degree in Finance or related field (MBA preferred).
-
8–12+ years of progressive finance experience, ideally with at least 3 years in homebuilding or real estate development.

Proven experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling.

Strong knowledge of regional housing markets and construction cost drivers.

Prior experience in homebuilding, land development, or real estate investment required.

Real Estate investment banking or Real Estate Private Equity experience strongly preferred.

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Power Point, and other dynamic reporting tools.

Quarterly travel required.

Exceptional executive presence, strategic thinking, and ability to influence cross-functional leaders.

Expected Salary: $160,000 - $200,000 Annual Salary - This position is eligible for additional performance incentives in the form of a quarterly bonus opportunity up to 75% of base salary.
