Assistant Investment Analyst - Macro & Rates

The Assistant Investment Analyst will support to the Head of Macro & Rates Strategy by helping monitor and track economic research and forecasts for input to the Investment Strategy Committee. The analyst will also be responsible for helping to conduct interest rate research. The analyst will be expected to stay abreast of current economic trends and provide updates to the Head of Macro & Rates on a regular basis. The ideal candidate will have a background or demonstrated interest in economics and market research, excellent writing and communication skills, and the ability to work independently in supporting the team.

Responsibilities:

  • Track and monitor key economic indicators such as inflation rates, employment data, and gross domestic product (GDP), helping to evaluate their impact on interest rate and overall market conditions.

  • Track and monitor street, market, and consensus forecasts on key economic indicators.

  • Track and monitor central bank communications, including monetary policy statements, press conferences and speeches, to help analyze and interpret the implications for central bank forward guidance.

  • Track and highlight relevant industry news and developments, as well as changes in government policy and high frequency data that could impact the economy.

  • Contribute to and assist in producing timely economic research in support of the Head of Macro & Rates and ultimately present to the Investment Strategy Committee.

  • Participate in multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.

  • Perform ad hoc analysis and special projects, as requested.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Political Science, Engineering, Mathematics or another related field.

  • 0-3+ years professional (investment related) experience.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

  • Strong mathematical ability and statistical analysis skills.

  • Familiarity with macroeconomic concepts and theories.

  • Familiarity working with econometric models a plus.

  • Proficient in data analysis and statistical tools, such as Excel, STATA, R, or similar software.

  • Progress towards CFA designation a plus.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$82,297 - $92,803
