FINANCIAL ASSISTANT 3, Singapore-MIT Alliance for Res and Tech (SMART), works with the SMART-MIT Senior Program Manager and SMART Chief Operating Officer (COO) on all facets of financial management for several large research projects including pre and post award including assisting with account set up and closeout; responding to financial inquiries requiring an in-depth understanding of work area and MIT policies and procedures; distributing financial reports; monitoring and reconciling budgets, maintaining the billing account transaction lists; monitoring and reconciling accounting statements, fixes discrepancies, and performs projections, creating financial templates and form; assisting with the preparation and process of travel and purchases reimbursements; holding travel trainings with administrators and faculty; paying honorariums to SAC members; tracking residency stays for faculty and staff; and serving as a resource to faculty, students, and staff approving expenditures on SMART accounts. The SMART Center, MIT's research enterprise in Singapore, is the first such research center outside of Cambridge, MA. It allows faculty, researchers, and graduate students from MIT to collaborate with their Singapore counterparts from universities, polytechnics, research institutes and industry and has annual expenses totaling ~$30M.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of five years administrative or financial support experience. PREFERRED: Bachelor’s degree; knowledge of sponsor research regulations; experience in academic programs and administration; ability to work with a diverse group of people; diligence, excellent organizational, interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills; ability to meet short deadlines; service-oriented, multitasker who excels in team settings; proficiency in financial systems, sponsored accounting, and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); and experience with MIT financial systems.
